Title: Hartzell Acquires Reliant Hardwoods

PIQUA, Ohio, August 3, 2012 - Hartzell announced today that it has acquired the assets of Kirksville, MO-based Reliant Hardwoods, a division of Renneberg Hardwoods. The company's core business involves purchasing, processing, and selling hardwood lumber worldwide. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.


"Reliant Hardwoods is an important strategic step to grow our hardwood lumber business", said John Owsiany, President Hartzell Hardwoods. "This acquisition provides the geographical diversification we need to better serve our customers.  It adds capacity to our current manufacturing production and gets us closer to the mainstream walnut sources.  We will be able to offer a wider range of species for our customers.  Our strategic plan is to invest a significant amount of capital in our Kirksville facility to increase capacity.  Over the next 12 months we will incrementally double the number of people we employ there."  Hartzell Hardwoods is known throughout the world as a leading producer of fine walnut lumber as well as top quality thick stock red and white oak lumber.  Hartzell Hardwood’s philosophy continues to be characterized by innovation, quality, and integrity.

Hartzell Air Movement has redefined the power roof ventilator with a unique advantage to decrease service time while eliminating the risk of moisture. “The addition of a zero-leak service door which moves both the propeller and motor out of the airstream has a significant impact on quick service,” says Tom Gustafson, Chief Technology Officer. “This new design with a zero-leak seal is a reaction to customer requests where critical systems cannot be exposed to moisture as other fans have previously allowed.”

After passing rigorous inspection processes, Hartzell Air Movement has become ISO 9001:2008 certified! “The purpose was to improve our products, processes, and to make us more consistent,” stated Chief Technology Officer, Tom Gustafson. ISO is the only internationally recognized organization of standards. Companies who are ISO 9001 certified report improved delivery times, increased productivity and a reduction in scrap and waste.

A long-time Miami County company is in the midst of a rebirth that includes millions of dollars in investments.

Piqua-based Hartzell Industries Inc. is adding space, workers and equipment as well as breaking into new geographic markets. The nearly 300-employee company — which includes three divisions: Hartzell Air Movement, Hartzell Hardwoods, and Arkansas Face Veneer — already hired 90 people in the past 15 months, a mix of new workers and replacements.

Jeff Bannister, CEO of Hartzell Industries, began planning for the flurry of activity when the family-owned company brought him aboard last summer.

Ground Breaking PhotosHartzell Air Movement broke ground on a construction project that will allow the production of fans with centrifugal wheel widths of up to 89” in all materials of construction. This project, known as the High Bay Project, will add 30,000 sq. ft. of high technology industrial manufacturing space to Hartzell’s Piqua operations and will feature a 23-foot under hook crane height and a new 30’ x 30’ sand blast room. In addition, the new manufacturing space will provide four additional 10 ton cranes for the movement of very large fans.
