Jim Whalen is the CEO of Hartzell as well as a member of the Hartzell Board of Directors, joining the company in November, 2015.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Bowling Green University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he graduated with highest distinction as a Baker Scholar.  Prior to joining Hartzell, Jim spent 18 years as the CEO of GEMCITY Engineering and Manufacturing, a leading global manufacturer of medical implants, robots, and automation equipment with manufacturing facilities in Dayton, Philadelphia, and Thailand.  As owner and CEO, he successfully completed a reinvention of the company that resulted in significantly improved profitability. 

 

Jim has proven expertise in executive management, business reinvention, operations and financial management, strategic marketing, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity.  Jim is on the University of Dayton Business School Advisory Board and the Board of Dayton Children’s Hospital.  Jim also has experience with several family owned companies across industries and serves on the boards of many family owned businesses.

 

Jim and his wife, Tami, have 4 children and 8 grandchildren, all of whom reside in the Dayton area.
