Job Title: Industrial Painter - 3rd Shift

Basic Function:

Performs spray painting functions to a variety of sheet metal parts, castings, machine parts, and sub-assemblies.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Receives verbal instructions or printed work orders from Group Leader or Department Supervisor. Parts to be painted are staged at the paint line or hand wand wash area. Parts will be run through the multi–stage wash system or manually power washed. Painter must know how to operate the wash tanks, hand wand power wash system, automated and / or manual trolley system as well as lift tables, overhead hoist, and fork trucks. Painter is responsible (supervision of) for the proper hanging of all parts utilizing proper gauge hooks and reasonable methods on the automated and manual trolleys
  • Mixes paint according to instructions on product technical sheets. Pours paint and/or powder paint into large container. Uses hand held mixer to mix most paints. If using standard "Hartzell blue" paint or primer, these are mixed with a 55 gallon drum mixer.
  • Moves parts from wash tanks or hand wand wash and preps for painting.
  • Determines whether to use a solvent or water based pump to run paint through.      
  • Moves parts into drying room. Utilizes lift table, overhead hoist or tow motor to safely remove parts from conveyor lines when fully dry.
  • Removes parts from paint area when required and move to assembly area.
  • Completes daily documents.

  • Fills in for paint-prep person when needed.
  • Cleans up painting equipment daily. Flushes paint line with water or solvent as required by manufacturer. Disposes of in proper containers as required by Environmental and Safety Coordinator. Follows regular cleaning schedule.
  • Provides regularly scheduled maintenance to paint and blast equipment as required to ensure maximum operation efficiency.
  • Assists in Lean projects when required.
  • Follows all safety practices and rules.

 

 

Qualifications and Required Skills:
 
Knowledge: High school education, reading and writing legibly and basic math skills. Knowledge of airless or HVLP spray systems.
 
Experience: 3 to 12 months to learn and perform the functions of the job at a good level of proficiency.
 
Machines, Tools, Equipment (Office and Industrial), Software: Overhead hoist, tow motor, hand pallet jack, sandblaster, screwdriver, wrenches, hand tools, hand held mixer, paint gun, lift table, wash system and automated trolley system.
 
Licenses/Certifications: Tow motor license
