Job Title: Sheet Metal Fabricator

Basic Function:

Performs fabrication functions to take flat sheet goods and structural material to a finished part or product using established procedures.

Responsibilities and Duties:

(Essential)

  • Receives work order and verbal orders from Group Leader or Foreman.
  • Reports to work center to perform given task. May work off of work order, layout, or required information off computer system.
  • Sets up and operates manual fabrication equipment, (e.g.) shears, roll forming equipment, iron worker, punch press, etc. Does so using different types of foot pedals, hand levers, palm buttons, toggle switches, button controls, gauges, spot welders and various measuring devices.
  • Sets up and operates CNC equipment (e.g.) turret punchpress, laser torch, plasma torch, and brake press through the use of programs, layouts, and work orders using a computerized down loading system. Also uses CNC system to program some minor functions.
  • Manually moves material in and out of work centers with assistance as necessary from co-workers, overhead hoists, hand pallet trucks, and towmotor.

  • Sets up and operates various horizontal and vertical band saws, abrasive cut off saws, and pedestal grinders.
  • Operates small hand held tools, (e.g.) grinders, drill and various deburring equipment.

Visual - acuity, far, near, depth perception, field of vision, accommodation, color vision.
 
Physical Demands (Physical demands commonly associated** with the performance of the functions of this job.): Frequently (over 70% of work day) lifting 1 - 60 lbs. of material, usually from floor to waist level. Stands 8 - 10 hours per day.
 
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions (Environmental/atmospheric conditions commonly associated** with the performance of the functions of this job.): Inside conditions, extremes of heat, humidity, noise, vibration, hazards, fumes, odors, dust.
 
Knowledge: High school education, blue print reading, basic math, reading and writing skills, knowledge in reading protractor, rule, square, basic fabrication skills. CNC equipment skills helpful but not mandatory.
 
Experience: 3 months to 12 months to learn and perform the functions of the job at a good level of proficiency.
 
Machines, Tools, Equipment (Office and Industrial), Software: Shears, roll-forming machine, press brake, turret, single head punch press, grinder, deburrer, band saw, abrasive cut-off saw, ring rolls, iron worker, nibbler, protractor, measuring tape, square, plasma torch, laser torch, hydraulic press and computer system.
 
Licenses/Certifications: Forklift Operator's License
