Job Title: Buyer / Purchasing Agent

Basic Function:
 
The Buyer/Purchasing Agent supports internal customers such as Manufacturing, Order Entry and Sales teams to insure all relative raw materials and purchased components are properly quoted, ordered, delivered and available for production use. This individual will also coordinate with applicable suppliers to negotiate pricing, long-term agreements, tooling requirements and cost, and shipping costs to analyze in a total cost format. Annual cost savings requirements, global supplier selection experience, and electronic sourcing skills are key elements to this position.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Purchases materials using MRP system and based upon input from the shop floor and office personnel. Obtains quotations from suppliers and evaluates these along with delivery information.
  2. Reviews price, on time deliveries, and quality issues with current suppliers and evaluates new suppliers.
  3. Works with shop personnel in evaluating material used on the shop floor. Must understand the use of common production machines.
  4. Exhibits strong communication skills by interacting with both internal and external personnel. Must be able to work under pressure in a multi-tasking environment.
  5. Maintains procurement records such as items and services purchased, costs and deliveries, product quality and supplier delivery performance.
  6. Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection and quality assurance personnel and reviews these problems with suppliers.
  7. Reviews and approves invoices with accounts payable personnel.
  8. Ability to travel at 40% of time both foreign and domestically.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in procurement and material control or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 - 7 years experience with above knowledge base to perform at a fully functioning level of proficiency.
  • Proven experience with global sources.
  • Experience with off-shore shipping process and applicable Incoterms.
  • Strong commodity management skills, including metals (ferrous, non-ferrous).
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ariba OnDemand software familiarity is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in managing multiple tasks as the same time.
